Can we prevent these alterations? Yes:
- In children good breathing and dental occlusion is important. That is why check-ups with the ears-nose-throat doctor, paediatrician and orthodontist are important after they turn 6.
- Check-ups with the orthodontist, ear-nose-throat specialist and pneumologist are also important, as well as weight control…>
At what age does this affect people?
It is mostly seen in men over 40, although it can happen at any age.
Are there other treatments? Yes:
- Severe cases are treated by the Sleep Unit by ear-nose-throat specialists and pneumologists by CPAP or even surgery.
- In moderate/light cases it is treated by the odontologist trained in Dental Sleep Medicine, by intraoral devices. There are many different ones, at our clinic we use Orthoapnea because it is comfortable to use.
